Using the Speakap Timeline Feed Syndicator for Digital Signage

The Speakap Timeline Feed integration is a useful tool for customers who have a contract with a digital signage (narrowcasting) provider. It provides a simple method for displaying your network's timeline on screens throughout your organization without the need to develop a custom integration via the Speakap API.

How It Works

In these scenarios, Speakap can install this integration on your network. A unique URL is generated, which you can then provide to your third-party digital signage provider. Their application uses this URL to pull and display the timeline content on your company's screens.

Configuration Settings

Once the integration is installed, you can configure several settings. The specific settings are typically determined by the needs of the customer or the third-party provider.

  • Output format: You can select the output format for your feed, such as Atom.
  • Number of messages: Customize how many messages appear in the feed.
  • Timeline Feed URL: This is the most critical part of the configuration. This unique URL should be copied and sent to your provider so a connection can be established.
  • Token: If you ever suspect that the feed URL has been shared with unauthorized individuals, you can select "Regenerate token". This will make the old URL invalid. You must then update any applications using the feed with the newly generated URL.

Limitations

One drawback of this integration compared to a custom-built solution is the limitation on data filtering. The feed only contains items that are addressed to the entire network.; it is not possible to display content from only specific groups. This level of filtering is possible if the third party builds its own custom integration with the Speakap API. If you wish to develop an API integration, please reach out to our support team.
