Unable to Post an Update to a Business Unit (BU), Department (LD), or Group

Article Summary: This guide explains why a user might be unable to post an Update to specific areas within the Speakap network, such as a Business Unit (BU), Local Department (LD), or a specific group. The issue is usually caused by restricted user permissions, which can be updated by a network administrator, HR, or possibly a direct manager.

1. The Issue: Cannot Post an Update

Users may occasionally find that they cannot publish or post an Update to specific segments of the network. You might experience this in the following areas:

  • BU (Business Unit): A larger organizational segment, like a location, brand or region.
  • LD (Local Department): A specific team, store, or department.
  • Groups: Specific topic-based or team-based groups within the platform, like ‘All Managers’ or ‘HR News’

2. Why Does This Happen?

This is not a technical bug or a glitch. Speakap networks use a role-based permissions system managed by the network administrators and/or a preference setting in the business unit, department or group.

If you are unable to post to a certain BU, LD, or group, it means your current user role does not have the required "post" or "publish" permissions enabled for that specific audience. Network administrators use these permissions to ensure that communication remains relevant and targeted to the right employees.

3. How to Resolve the Issue

Because permissions are centrally managed by your organization (not by Speakap support), you will need to request a permission update internally. Your internal administrators may request Speakap’s support if needed, on your behalf.

Follow these steps to obtain the correct permissions:

  1. Identify the specific audience: Note down the exact Business Unit, Department, or Group you are trying to post an Update to.
  2. Contact your Manager or HR: Reach out to your direct manager, your Human Resources department, or your internal Speakap Network Administrator.

Request access: Explain that you need the ability to post Updates to that specific BU/LD/Group, and ask them to update your user role or permissions in the Speakap Network Settings.
