Why does Speakap ask me to access my usage data?

Summary: To keep improving the platform, Speakap looks at aggregated, anonymous usage data. This guide explains what is tracked, how your privacy is protected, and how to change your data-sharing preference at any time.

Why do we collect usage data

At Speakap, we want to design features that fit smoothly into your daily work. Direct user feedback is incredibly valuable, but real-time usage metrics also help us spot friction points and check our design choices.

When you opt into data sharing, the platform logs specific actions such as clicking a button, opening a page, or drafting a post. Analyzing these metrics helps us answer questions like:

  • Where do users routinely get stuck or abandon a task (for example, while publishing a Feed post)?
  • How long does it take an employee on average to complete a workflow?
  • How often do users visit specific tabs or modules over a given period?

Privacy and security

Security and data privacy are foundational to Speakap. The system never stores identifiable personal activity logs. All tracking data is anonymized at the source, so your platform activity is not linked to you as an individual user.

Granting permission the first time

When you log into your company's network for the very first time, a prompt asks for permission to collect your navigation events.

  • Click Allow access to share your usage data.
  • Click No, thanks if you prefer not to. Your choice does not affect your access or any platform functionality, and you can change your mind at any point.

Changing your preference later

You can change your data-sharing choice at any time. The path differs slightly per device:

On desktop (web browser)

  1. Click your avatar, then the gear wheel (Settings), then Personal Settings.
  2. Click Privacy Settings in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Check or uncheck the Share usage data option to set your preference.

On the iOS and Android apps

  1. Tap the menu/avatar icon in the bottom navigation bar.
  2. Select Settings from the menu.
  3. Tap Privacy and Security.
  4. Use the toggle to enable or disable the Share usage data setting.
