User has a new iPhone and is unable to download the app

Article summary: When an employee gets a new iPhone, they must redownload the Speakap iOS app. This guide explains how users can redownload the app using their existing Apple ID, and how Network Administrators can generate a new redeemable code if the user is switching to a different Apple ID.

Important: this only applies to iOS apps distributed with an Apple Business Account. We offer an easier distribution of the iOS app using the regular Apple Developer Account.

1. Re-downloading with the same Apple ID

If the employee is using the same Apple ID on their new iPhone as they did on their previous device, they do not need a new invitation or setup from an administrator.

Because the app is already tied to their Apple ID account history, they can redownload it directly via Apple's standard account options:

  1. Open the App Store on the new iPhone.
  2. Tap the profile icon / photo in the top right corner.
  3. Select Apps (or Purchased).
  4. Search for your organization's Speakap application and tap the cloud download icon to reinstall it.

2. Downloading with a new Apple ID (Redeemable Codes)

If your organization distributes the app via Apple custom distribution methods, each download uses a unique, single-use activation code. If the employee switches to a different Apple ID on their new device, their previous download history will not carry over, and their original code cannot be reused.

In this scenario, a Network Administrator must generate and issue a new redeemable code or the user opens Speakap on their mobile device in the browser, and click ‘Download app’.

As an administrator, follow these steps to send a new code:

  1. Log into Speakap on your web browser and open the Network Settings.
  2. Navigate to the User Management section and locate the affected user's profile.
  3. Select the option to clear their mobile device registration or generate a new mobile invitation.
  4. Trigger the re-invite action to generate a fresh Apple redeemable code.

3. Next steps for the user

Once the administrator processes the request, the user will automatically receive an email containing their new single-use redeemable code. The user can click the link inside the email or copy the code into the App Store to download and launch the app using their new Apple ID credentials.
