What happens when I delete content from Speakap?

The "Hard Deletion" Process

When you choose to delete content on Speakap (such as a timeline update, a news item, a comment, a Knowledge Base article, or an uploaded file), the platform executes a process known as a hard deletion.

  • Irreversible: This process results in the complete and permanent removal of the content from the Speakap database.
  • No Recovery: Once the content itself is deleted, it cannot be restored or recovered by network administrators or Speakap Support.

Information Retained in the Audit Log

While the actual content (the text, images, or files) is completely destroyed, Speakap maintains an Audit Log that records the event of the deletion. This is strictly metadata used to track system actions.

The audit log securely captures and retains the following four pieces of information:

  • Type of Content: The category of the deleted data (e.g., whether it was an update, a news item, a file, or another form of data).
  • Author of the Content: The original creator of the post, captured by their unique User EID.
  • Deletion Initiator: The person who actually performed the deletion, captured by their User EID and (if available) their primary email address. This helps determine if an author deleted their own post, or if an administrator removed it.
  • Deletion Date: The exact date and time the content was deleted. This timestamp is recorded and offered in standard UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
