Who can see my private messages?

Article summary: Data privacy and system security are top priorities at Speakap. This guide clarifies who has visibility into your 1:1 and group private messages on the platform.

1. Complete message privacy

At Speakap, private really means private. Any private message or chat conversation exchanged between two or more people is strictly confidential. These messages can only be seen by the specific individuals who are actively included in the conversation thread.

2. Access restrictions for administrators and managers

Unlike public timeline updates or news comments, your direct messages are protected:

  • Network Administrators: Cannot access, review, or audit your private chat history from the backend control panel. Only if messages are being reports, the admins can take action when reviewing.
  • Corporate Leadership: No managers, supervisors, or platform creators (whether inside or outside your organization) have the ability to view your conversations.

You can communicate freely with your teammates knowing that your text chats, shared media, and direct interactions remain fully contained within your private chat window, as long as messages are not being reported.
