If you often find yourself asking: what are the best sizes and formats for images and videos in the app?
We have compiled this handy list with all requirements and restrictions for uploading pictures on Speakap in terms of size and resolution. Here you can find all the information you need to update profile pictures and cover images, and upload attachments in your updates, chats, and so on.
Profile and Cover Images
For your profile, we offer the ability to upload a profile picture and a cover image, which you can handily update on your profile page that you can find by clicking on your name from the drop down menu of the user profile icon in the top right.
Profile Image
To update your profile image, click on the circle in the center of the page.
The image must have a resolution of at least 260x260 pixels.
If your selected cover image resolution is under 260x260 pixels the following error will appear at the top right of your screen:

To update the cover image in your personal profile, click on the camera icon in the top right corner of the default cover.
The image must have a resolution of at least 780x260 pixels.
If your selected cover image resolution is under 780x260 pixels the following error will appear at the top right of your screen:
Cover Image in News Update
You also have the option to add a cover image to your News Updates. To do so, when creating a new news item you will be able to add the cover image by clicking on the camera icon in the top right corner of the news item drafting screen.
The image must have a resolution of 490x175 pixels.
Attachment Sizes
If anything you want to share on Speakap requires additional elements, you can add attachments to Updates, Events, News, Pages, Journeys and Tasks. When doing so, you should consider the following guidelines:
Supported Formats
What are the best formats to upload images, videos, and files on Speakap?
- Image: JPEG, JPG, PNG, or GIF (excluding SVG), and other file types like HTML are not considered valid for image uploads.

Video: AVI, Flash Video (.flv, .f4v), Matroska (.mkv), MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (.mp4, .m4v), MPEG-PS, QuickTime (.mov), WebM, and Windows Media (.wmv).
The following video formats are not supported: 3GPP (.3gp), 3GPP2 (.3g2), and DV (.dif, .dv)
- File: PDF, XLS, DOC
Maximum Size
What is the best size for uploading images, videos, and files?
- Images: Up to 256MB per image
- Videos: Up to 2GB per video uploaded directly to a post
- Maximum size per video added as an attachment: 256MB
- Files: Up to 256MB per file
For large video files, using a video compressor to reduce the file size before uploading will speed up both the upload and the transcoding process without affecting quality.

- Files & Images: combined up to 100
My video is not uploading
If your video meets all the above requirements but still won't upload or play, check your internet connection and allow time for transcoding to complete. If the issue persists, contact support at support@speakap.com with the video file and a screenshot of any error you're seeing.
Why is my video not embedded?
We use embed.ly for embedded content.
To support an embedded player instead of just a thumbnail, it is necessary to become a 'provider' at embed.ly.
