Everything about Compass

Article summary: Compass provides essential metrics and insights to help you monitor the health of your network and spot trends in employee behavior. This guide explains the differences between the Basic and Premium Compass dashboards, the metrics available, and how administrators can access this data to make strategic decisions.

1. What is Compass?

An in-depth evaluation of your network’s status is an important step toward growing your platform with informed and strategic decisions. Compass allows you to track how your network is using Speakap by providing real-time data (updated as of yesterday) or historical data based on a specific custom time window.

2. Compass Basic

With the basic version of Compass, you gain access to a free Homepage Dashboard that summarizes the most relevant high-level data. This includes:

  • Activation progress: How many users have successfully joined the platform.
  • User activity: General engagement levels across the network.
  • Device usage: A breakdown of mobile versus desktop access.
  • Session length: How much time users are spending on the platform.

3. Compass Premium

For a deeper dive, Compass Premium offers a wide range of extra metrics that highlight successes in your content strategy and surface areas for improvement. Unlocking Premium grants you access to six new, dedicated dashboards:

  • Spotlight: Identifies your top performers—the business units, departments, teams or groups doing particularly well in user activation, engagement, and retention. It highlights where platform usage is strongest and where there are opportunities for improvement.
  • Activation: Provides clear visibility into platform adoption by tracking the exact number of sent invitations, how many have been accepted, and how many are still pending approval.
  • Retention: Helps you understand whether your users are consistently coming back to the platform and explores the most popular log-in times for your employees including heat maps.
  • Activity: Measures how many users are actively interacting with the main timeline, along with an overview of engaged users within specific group timelines.
  • Content: Gives a detailed view of the type and volume of content being published, along with performance metrics such as views, comments, and reactions.
  • Tasks: Provides a comprehensive overview of the progress of all tasks (created, open, re-opened, closed, or overdue). Note: this tab is only visible if the network has Tasks enabled.

Note: for all metrics there are exporting capabilities available, to export to csv, excel, or png.

4. How to access Compass

Because Compass provides sensitive analytical data, it is heavily restricted by role and platform.

Requirements:

  • Platform: Compass is a web-only feature (accessible via desktop browser).
  • Permissions: It is only available to Network Administrators and (Organizational) Group Administrators and Users that have received a network permission to access the Analytics.

To access your dashboards:

  1. Log in to the Speakap web application.
  2. Click your profile picture in the top right corner of the main navigation menu.
  3. Select Compass from the dropdown panel.
