Need input from your team or the whole office? Polls make it easy to get quick feedback—whether you’re making a big decision or planning something fun, like picking a lunch spot. Share them across your network, department, or groups.
How to create a Poll
Open the post creation window, start typing in the text composer box at the bottom of the banner in the feed, while selecting Poll from the content type picker at the top of the window. You are currently creating a poll!
Let’s explore the options to help you create the perfect poll for your needs.
Your poll starts with a clear question you want to ask your colleagues.
This question will appear prominently in the Feed, so it’s important to keep it short and focused. That’s why there’s a 100-character limit for this field.
Good to know: Your question can only include basic text (no images, links, or formatting), it’s a required field, and your poll can’t be submitted without it.
Context matters, so you can add a description of up to 255 characters to provide extra details or background for your question.
Good to know: Your question can only include basic text (no images, links, or formatting). Contrary to the question, a description is optional.
We’re finally at the crucial point of the poll: the answer options. Simply add your answers in the provided rows, up to 25 options in total!
By default, you’ll see fields to enter the first two answer options—these are required to create a poll. To ‘Add another option’, click on the text below the first two options.
Remember: you must add at least two answers, so it is never possible to delete the first two options. You can always change their text if you realize you made a mistake.
To delete an option you added by mistake, click on the bin icon on the right of the composer. You will see a banner asking you to confirm your choice to make sure you don’t get rid of content by mistake. Just click ‘Delete’ and you’re set.
Good to know:
- Each answer has a maximum length of 255 characters.
- Your answers can only contain basic text (no images, links, or formatting)
- Your poll requires at least 2 answers.
It is important to know that answers are anonymous.
Poll settings
We understand you might have different needs when it comes to collecting colleagues’ opinions; this is why we offer full control over every aspect of your poll.
Toggle this option if you want your poll to close automatically at a specific date and time.
While the poll is still open, users will see how much time remains to participate. Once it closes, voting is disabled, and the results will be shown along with a message indicating when the poll ended.
Your poll isn’t just for voting; users can also comment and react, depending on the settings you choose.
You have full control over these interaction options, as well as notification preferences. By default, all options are enabled, so if you’d like to turn any off, you’ll need to do so manually. And of course, you can always switch them back on later.
Allow Comments
Do you want to leave space for clarification and discussion under your poll or do you think it speaks for itself? Either way, simply toggle the option on and off by clicking on the settings icon below the answers list.
Allow Reactions
Reactions may be useful to explore how users feel about the post, but they could also be superfluous depending on what you are investigating with your poll. Decide if you want to allow them by clicking on the settings icon below the answers list and toggling the option off or on.
Notifications
Make the decision on whether you want users to get notifications about your poll. If you would rather they don’t toggle off the option in the settings menu by clicking on the gear icon below the answers.
