Summary: Your Feed collects updates from every Business Unit, Department and Group you belong to, and that can get noisy. This guide shows you how to mute push notifications for individual groups, or manage them all at once, so important announcements stand out and casual chatter stays quiet.
For a full overview of how notifications work in Speakap, see Notifications: Overview and Settings.
Muting a single Group, Business Unit or Department
If one busy group or social space is flooding your phone with alerts, you can silence it directly from its own page. This works on the desktop web version, the iOS app and the Android app.
- Go to the page of the Group, Business Unit or Department you want to mute.
- Open its options menu (the settings gear or three-dot icon).
- Switch the notification toggle to OFF.
Muting only stops the alerts. The posts, images and comments from that group still appear in your Feed whenever you choose to open it.
Note: you can only change notification settings for groups and organizational units you have joined. For ones you are not a member of, the toggle is locked.
Managing all your groups at once
Want to review your notifications in one go and change settings for several teams at the same time? You can manage everything from one central place.
The list is deliberately split into Regular Groups, Business Units and Departments, so you can give different priorities to different parts of your organization.
On desktop, iOS or Android:
- Open the main menu and select Settings.
- Go to Notifications.
- Select Push Notifications.
- Click or tap Updates.
You will see a complete, categorized list of every group you belong to. Slide the toggles on or off per item to build your ideal setup in seconds.
Frequently asked questions
Why are my notification settings divided into Departments, Business Units and Groups?
The sections help you manage different levels of importance. Your Department or Business Unit typically carries essential shift and operational information, while regular Groups might host non-urgent social chatter or project updates.
If I mute a group's push alerts, will I still see its posts in my Feed?
Yes. Turning off group notifications only stops the lock screen pop-ups and vibrations. The posts, images and comments still load in your Feed whenever you open the app.
Can I turn on push notifications for a public group before I join it?
No. You need to be a member first. Tap the Join button on a public group before changing its notification settings.
