Summary: This guide is for everyone who wants Speakap updates in their inbox, or who wants fewer of them. It shows you how to turn email notifications on or off from your desktop browser, iPhone or Android phone.
For a full overview of how notifications work in Speakap, see Notifications: Overview and Settings.
How email notifications work
By default, Speakap keeps you in the loop with mobile push notifications and desktop browser alerts. On top of that, you can switch on email notifications to get a message in your personal or work inbox whenever something happens on the platform.
A few things that are good to know:
- Your email settings work completely independently of your push and desktop notifications. Turning emails off keeps your inbox clean while your lock screen banners and red app badges keep working.
- Right after your account is created, one email notification is enabled by default: alerts for brand-new News items in your network. You can scale this back or turn it off completely at any time.
- Network administrators can set default notification settings for the whole network, but they cannot override your personal choice to turn email notifications off. For announcements that everyone must read, organizations typically use Acknowledgeable News items in the app rather than email.
On a desktop computer or laptop
- Open your web browser and sign in to your company network.
- Click your avatar, then the gear wheel (Settings), then Personal Settings.
- Select the Notifications tab.
- Click the Email sub-category and check or uncheck the notifications you want.
- Click save at the bottom of the page.
On an iPhone (iOS app)
- Open the Speakap app on your iPhone.
- Tap the menu icon (the three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner.
- Tap Settings (scroll down if you do not see it right away).
- Tap Notifications, then Email, and check or uncheck your preferences.
On an Android phone
- Open the Speakap app on your Android phone.
- Tap the menu button (the three stacked lines) in the bottom right corner.
- Tap Settings (scroll down slightly if it is hidden from view).
- Tap Notifications, then Email, and adjust the toggles as you like.
Frequently asked questions
If I turn off all my email alerts, will I still get push notifications on my phone?
Yes. Email settings work entirely independently of your push notifications. Turning emails off gives you a cleaner inbox while your lock screen banners and red app badges stay intact.
Why am I still getting emails after unchecking the Feed updates box?
Changes to your settings apply almost instantly. If emails keep arriving, double-check that you clicked save at the bottom of the desktop settings page, and that you did not accidentally leave "New news item in the network" enabled while turning off general Feed updates.
Can my network administrator override my choices and force me to receive emails?
Administrators can set default settings for the whole network, but they cannot lock down or override your personal choice to disable email notifications. Critical announcements that require a mandatory read are typically sent as Acknowledgeable News items in the app instead.
