Summary: When a critical update or high-priority announcement needs everyone's attention, pin it. This guide explains how to pin Updates, News items, Events, or Polls to the top of feeds, how the pinned carousel works, how to unpin (manually or on a schedule), and which permissions are needed.
How pinned posts work
Whether it's an urgent system failure alert, a security warning for retail spaces, or a video message from the CEO, pinning makes sure it gets seen.
You can pin items to the network Feed, as well as to specific Business Units, Local/Global Departments, and regular Groups.
Carousel logic: Each individual group or department feed is limited to one pinned post at a time. The main Feed gathers all active pinned posts from your group memberships into a single carousel at the very top of the page.
- Navigation: Dots beneath the top banner show how many pinned posts are available to you. Scroll horizontally to swipe through them.
- Recognition: To help everyone identify the type of information at a glance, pinned posts have distinct color-coded headers:
| Post type | Border / indicator color |
| Updates | 🟢 Green |
| News items | 🔴 Red |
| Events | 🟠 Orange |
| Polls | 🟣 Purple |
How to pin a post
- Find the post (Update, News, Event, or Poll) you want to highlight.
- Click the three dots menu (...) in the top right corner of the post.
- Select Pin.
- Choose how long it stays pinned:
- Leave it pinned indefinitely (until manually removed), or
- Use the date and time picker to schedule an automatic expiration.
- Select Continue to publish the pin.
Unpinning options
Manual unpinning
You can remove a pin at any moment, via two routes:
- From the carousel: Click the three dots inside the gray header banner of the carousel card and choose Unpin.
- From the detail view: Open the full post, click the three dots in the corner, and choose Unpin.
Automatic unpinning
If your announcement is time-sensitive, use the scheduler during setup to set an exact date and time for the pin to expire. Need to add or adjust an expiration after the post is already pinned? Click the options menu on the pinned post and change the settings there.
Permissions and roles
By default, pinning rights are restricted so the top of the Feed doesn't get cluttered. You can grant pinning rights to specific roles:
- Go to your Network Settings.
- Select the Roles tab.
- Open the user role you want to change.
- Go to the Timeline tab inside the role.
- Check the box labeled "Pin updates to the top of the network timeline".
Default rules:
- Network administrators have this right across the network by default. However, if an item sits inside a closed organizational group, the administrator must be a member of that group to pin or unpin its content.
- This permission is turned off by default for all other user tiers and custom roles until you change it.
