Can a deleted news item, update, or comment be recovered?

Summary: Accidentally deleted a post, comment, or file and hoping to get it back? This article explains why deleted content on Speakap cannot be restored, by anyone. It applies to end users and network administrators alike.

The short answer

No. Once content is deleted from Speakap, it cannot be reactivated, restored, or recovered under any circumstances. This applies to everyone: users, network administrators, and even the Speakap Support team cannot bring the content back.

This rule covers all forms of content, including:

  • Feed updates
  • News items
  • Comments and replies
  • Private messages
  • Knowledge Base categories, subcategories, and articles
  • Uploaded files, documents, and images

Why can't it be recovered?

We understand it can be frustrating to accidentally delete an important post or file, but this behavior is intentional.

When you delete something on Speakap, the system performs a "hard deletion". The data is completely and permanently erased from our active databases. We do not keep a trash bin or a temporary archive of your deleted files. This keeps your data privacy and security strictly maintained.

While the text and files themselves are gone for good, Speakap does keep a basic metadata record (an audit log) of the deletion itself, such as who deleted the post and when. To see exactly what the audit log keeps, read What happens when I delete content from Speakap.
