Summary: Whether a project has wrapped up or a chat is no longer relevant to your day-to-day work, you can leave a conversation at any time. This guide walks you through the steps on desktop and mobile, and explains what happens to the chat history.
Important: what happens to your chat history
Before you leave a conversation, keep these rules in mind:
- Your view: The moment you leave a conversation, it is permanently removed from your chat list. You will not be able to see the historical private messages between you and the other participant(s).
- Their view: Leaving is completely one-sided. The entire chat history stays fully intact and visible to all other remaining participants in the conversation.
On desktop
- Open your chat panel by clicking the messages icon in the top-right corner of your screen.
- Select the private or group conversation you want to leave from your active inbox list.
- In the header banner showing the chat or group name, click the Details button in the right-hand corner.
- Click the three-dot options icon (...).
- Select Leave conversation (for one-on-one private threads) or Leave group (for multi-user group chats) in the pop-up menu.
On mobile
