Attachments in Updates

Summary: Sometimes words are not enough. Images, videos, files, and GIFs add color and context to your Updates. This guide covers how to add attachments on desktop and mobile, how they display on the Feed, and the limits that are specific to Updates.

Adding attachments on desktop

Images

  • How to upload: Click the image icon in the bottom-left corner of the text composer. Drag and drop your image directly into the text field, or click Click to upload to browse your computer.
  • Managing: Previews of your images appear immediately inside the composer. To remove an image before posting, click the X in the top-right corner of the preview.
  • How it looks on the Feed: The layout adjusts to the number of images:
  • One image displays full-width.
  • Two images sit side by side.
  • Three images are arranged in a grid.
  • Four or more images become a collage with a + indicator on the last frame. Clicking it opens the Gallery view, with the full image on the left and the comment section on the right.

Videos

  • How to upload: Click the video icon in the bottom-left corner of the composer. Drag your file into the window or click Click to upload.
  • Processing: Larger, high-resolution videos take longer to process. While processing, the Update appears grayed out on the Feed. It becomes playable automatically the moment processing finishes.

Files

  • How to upload: Click the page icon in the bottom-left corner to attach documents like PDFs, Word documents, or Excel spreadsheets.
  • Managing: Attached the wrong document? Click the trash bin icon next to the file to remove it.
  • How it looks on the Feed: Files appear at the bottom of your Update with a download arrow. Up to three files show inline; any more are grouped under a clickable View all attachments link.

Adding attachments on mobile

The iOS and Android apps let you capture media on the spot or pick from your device's storage.

  • Images: Tap the image icon in the composer. Choose Take Photo to use your camera, or From Gallery to pick from your photo roll. Tap the X on a preview to remove it.
  • Videos: Tap the video icon, select an existing recording, or film a new clip directly in the app. The post stays grayed out on the Feed until the upload finishes, and you get an app notification when the video is processed and live.
  • Files: Tap the attachment icon to browse and select files (such as PDF, Word, or Excel) saved on your device.

Tip: sharing photos and a video in the same Update on mobile. On mobile, you cannot attach images and a video to the same Update at the same time; if you select a video, the photo upload button is disabled. The workaround: upload the video normally and attach the images as files at the bottom of the post. They won't display inline on the Feed, but users can tap to download them instantly.

Limits specific to Updates

  • Mobile is limited to 1 video per Update. On desktop, you can attach up to 5 videos per post.
  • Images can be up to 20MP in resolution.
