Summary: Announcements get more attention when paired with strong visuals. This guide explains how to set up your news header image, the difference between embedding media in the text and adding downloadable attachments, and which News-specific limits apply on top of the standard upload guidelines.
1. News header image guidelines
An engaging header image sets the visual tone for your news item. To make sure your cover photo looks crisp and scales correctly on desktop and mobile, follow these specifications:
- Optimal dimensions: The header image should have an aspect ratio of 3:1, with recommended dimensions of 1200x400 pixels.
- Minimum resolution: Your image must be at least 490x175 pixels.
- Upload rejection: If you try to upload a photo below this minimum, an error warning pops up in the top right-hand corner of your drafting screen.
2. Embedding media vs. adding downloadable attachments
The toolbar inside the News composer gives you two distinct ways to share assets with your colleagues:
Inline media embedding
You can place images, videos, hyperlinks, and documents directly within your body text.
- Click the link, image, video, or file icon in the text formatting toolbar to place the asset directly on the page.
- Image layout customization: Once an image is inserted, you can resize it by clicking and dragging its borders. A small formatting bar also appears directly above the selected image, letting you choose how it wraps with your surrounding text.
Downloadable attachments
If you prefer to keep your article body clean without inline elements, you can group your files at the bottom of the post.
- Click the paper clip icon to add your media as standard downloadable file attachments instead.
3. File limits and supported formats
News follows the standard Speakap upload limits for file sizes, attachment counts, and supported image, video, and document formats. You'll find the full overview in Guidelines for Uploading Media and Files.
One News-specific limit to keep in mind:
- Images: A maximum image resolution of 20 Megapixels (20MP) applies per image.
