Summary: Group conversations in Speakap are designed to be flexible. Participants can leave on their own, while group chat admins can remove other members directly from the chat on both web and mobile. This guide walks you through both routes.
Leaving on your own
Any participant can leave a group conversation at any time. This is the fastest way to stop receiving messages from a specific chat. For the full steps and what happens to your chat history, see How do I leave a private or group conversation.
Removing someone as a group admin
If you are the group owner or have been appointed as a group chat admin, you can remove other participants from the conversation.
On desktop (web)
- Open the group conversation in the Chat section.
- Click the Details button in the top right corner.
- In the sidebar that appears, scroll down to the Members list.
- Click the three-dot menu icon (...) next to the name of the person you wish to remove.
- Select Remove from group.
On mobile
- Open the group conversation and tap the group name at the top of the screen.
- Tap the Members list to see all participants.
- Tap the name of the user you wish to remove.
- Select Remove user to remove them from the group.
Deleting a group
If you are the group owner and the conversation is no longer needed, you can delete the entire group for all members. On desktop, this is found under the same three-dot menu icon (...) in the chat Details sidebar by selecting Delete group.
Still stuck?
If a group admin is unavailable and a user must be removed urgently, a Network Administrator can email us at support@speakap.com. For security reasons, only Network Administrators can request manual system-level removals. Please include:
- The full name of the user to be removed.
- The exact name of the group conversation.
- Your company network domain (name.speakap.com).
