Summary: Labels are a fast way to reach large segments of your company at once. This guide explains what organizational Labels are, the permissions required to manage and use them, and step-by-step instructions for creating Labels and using them in News items and Updates.
Note: These organizational Labels are a different feature than the Labels used as filters in Compass analytics; for those, see Labels in Compass Analytics.
What is a Label?
A Label is a custom, administrative grouping of multiple business units, for example combining them into a region or country. Instead of manually selecting dozens of individual locations every time you publish something for many business units, you select a single pre-configured Label. When a Label is targeted as a recipient, the system automatically expands the distribution list to include every business unit mapped to it.
Network requirement: The Labels feature is an advanced organizational tool exclusively available to organizations on an Enterprise network tier.
Permissions
Access to creating and using Labels is governed by specific privileges in your user roles:
| Action | Required role privilege | Scope |
| Manage Labels (create, edit, delete) | Manage organization | Once created by an authorized user, the Label becomes accessible and visible network-wide to anyone with publishing rights. |
| Use Labels (targeting in News) | Post news items to any group | Allows content authors to select the Label from the recipient picker when drafting a News item or Update. |
How to create a Label
If you have the Manage organization privilege, you can build a new audience shortcut like this:
- Click the gear wheel icon in the top right-hand corner of your screen.
- Select Manage Organisation under the Organisation settings category.
- Click Labels in the left-hand sidebar menu.
- Click the +Label button.
- Enter a clear, descriptive name for your Label (for example All Logistics Hubs or Region North Retail).
- Check the boxes next to all the business units you want to bundle into this group.
- Click Save. Your new Label is instantly ready for use across the network.
How to use a Label in an Update
Labels work the same way when posting an Update:
- Open the text composer and select Update.
- Click inside the audience selector.
- Browse or search for your custom Label. You can combine it with other recipients in the same Update if needed.
- Select the Label, confirm your selection, and publish.
The Update will now reach every employee in the business units mapped to that Label.
How to use a Label in a News item
Once a Label is saved, authors can use it to speed up publishing:
- Open the News items section from the primary left-hand navigation menu.
- Create a new News item (or edit an existing draft).
- Click inside the To audience targeting field.
- Browse or search for your custom Label.
- Select the Label, confirm your selection, and click Select.
The News item will now reach every employee in the business units mapped to that Label.
