Creating a News Item

To create a news item, click on the +New button in the top right corner of the News homepage: you are now in the News composer, let’s publish the perfect article together!

Write your title at the top – make sure it is clear and catchy, it will be visible in the article’s preview in the news homepage.

Expert tip: roughly the first 30 words will also appear in the preview, make them count! It would be ideal to focus on what you will cover in the article, so users can get an overview of the topics before even clicking into the news item.

Text formatting

The News composer gives you full flexibility with formatting, just like the regular post composer on Speakap. Check out what you can do here!

From the formatting tool bar you can also:

  • Insert images (you can also copy and paste them)

  • Add videos

  • Upload attachments

  • Include hyperlinks for extra context

Set Your Publication Options

On the right side, you’ll see publication settings:

You can schedule the publication or post it immediately. If you opt for scheduling it, you will be presented with a calendar to pick your preferred date from, and below it you can indicate the time you want your news to be published on that day.

Next, choose your audience: the audience picker is the one you are familiar with, navigate between business units, departments, locations, teams, and groups, and select your target audience. 

Lastly, you have complete freedom regarding the amount of interaction you want users to have with your post. You can enable or disable comments and reactions, and you can even make sure to have your users acknowledge they read the article. 

News Items Draft mode

As soon as you open the news composer, you are automatically creating a draft of an article. You are free to leave the page and come back as you please, all your changes will be saved as drafts in real time until you decide to publish the article.

Want to discard an article you are working on? Easy: click on the bottom right button ‘Delete draft’.

To access your drafts, simply select the ‘Drafts’ filter in the News homepage.

Once everything looks good, hit Publish now: congrats, you just posted a news item!

News Cover Image

Click on the top banner to insert your preferred image as a news cover! 

Remember the image must have a resolution of 490x175 pixels.

Writing your news item

Let’s get to writing now! Insert your title into the ‘Compose news’ box, and the body of your news item under ‘Description’.

  • Insert images (you can also copy and paste them)

  • Add videos

  • Upload attachments

Can I format on mobile? 

Unfortunately, no formatting options are available on mobile at the moment. If you want more creative freedom, with options such as bolding or underlying text, compose your news item from a computer!
