News: Overview and Features

Summary: The News feature is designed for sharing long-form 'must read' information with targeted audiences, cleanly separated from the main Feed. This guide explains how to find, search, filter, and engage with news items on desktop and mobile, and where to go if you want to create them yourself.

1. Accessing your News landing page

News items are collected and organized in their own dedicated space within Speakap, keeping important company announcements structured and highly visible.

  • On desktop: Click News in the left-side navigation menu. Published items appear in a grid, with the newest article in the top left.
  • On mobile: Tap the megaphone icon in the bottom navigation menu. Articles appear in a vertical feed with the newest post at the top.

2. Searching and filtering news items

To quickly find announcements without scrolling, use the search and filtering tools built directly into the News module.

  • Dedicated News search: Use the search bar at the top of the News page instead of the universal Speakap search bar. This way your results only contain news articles.
  • Tip (mobile): If you don't immediately see the search bar on your phone, drag or swipe down on the News screen to reveal it.
  • Filtering options: Narrow down your view by clicking the filtering controls (the default view is Published). You can choose from:
  • Published: All articles currently live and visible to you.
  • Drafts: Saved articles that are still being written and have not been published.
  • Published by me: News items that you personally created and posted.
  • Scheduled: Completed articles set to automatically go live at a future date and time.

3. Reading a news item

Click or tap any news card on the landing page to read the full article. Once opened, a news item includes:

  • The header: A large cover image or headline banner at the top.
  • Metadata: The author's name, profile photo, and the exact date and time of publication, listed directly under the title.
  • The body: The main long-form text content.
  • Recent News box (desktop only): A panel on the right side of the screen with links to the most recently posted articles for quick browsing.

4. Comments, reactions, and acknowledgements

You can interact with news items to share your feedback or confirm that you have read an update.

  • Reactions: Click or tap the like icon to leave a quick reaction. On desktop, hover over the icon to pick an emoji; on mobile, long-press the icon to reveal the emoji selection menu.
  • Comments: Scroll to the very bottom of the news item to find a text box where you can type and post your thoughts.
  • Acknowledgement: Some news items require you to confirm you have read them. Simply click the button or use the slider to confirm. Read more in Making News Items Acknowledgeable.
